The Greek city of Piraeus resides within the region of Attica and is home to the biggest European ferry port in existence, which also ranks amongst the largest on the whole planet. Annually, Piraeus port sees passenger numbers top one million, with many visitors looking for accommodation upon their arrival.
There are plenty of good, reliable hotels spread all over central Piraeus, and so the cheap and rather unappealing lodging options located around the Great Harbour itself are really best avoided, since these are generally more geared up for sailors than actual tourists. The most appealing accommodation in the city tends to target the business market, although it is perfectly suitable for tourists and families, often being conveniently close to leading sights, such as the Piraeus Archaeological Museum on the Harilaou Trikoupi.
Recommended city accommodation includes the Mistral Piraeus, which boasts a glorious view of Mikrolimano Bay, while the recently renovated Glaros Hotel is another good option for the budget traveller. Rather more pricey is the luxurious Argo Hotel, which is situated in the very heart of Piraeus. A more reasonably priced choice is the Hotel Triton on the Tsamadou, which comes highly recommended by many a traveller and holidaymaker.
